Ferris State Cross Country Athletes Open Weekend Action At Lansing CC Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads opened weekend action on Friday (Sept. 30 at the Lansing Community College Invitational held at Grand Woods Park.

The Bulldogs came in fifth overall in the men's standings with 152 points while the women placed seventh with 182 points.

The meet included student-athletes from multiple schools across the state, including Michigan State, Lansing CC, Wayne State, Calvin, Hillsdale, Madonna and others.

FSU's contingent included a group of competitors with the top members of the Bulldogs' lineup set to compete instead at one of the nation's largest events, the Greater Louisville Classic, on Saturday (Oct. 1) in Louisville, Ky.

In Friday's action, the Bulldog men were led by Jackson Helmer, who placed 29th overall (27:09.5) on the 8K course. Gavin Vansolkema came in 35th (27:16.0) with Cooper Sorsen 38th (27:26.6) and Ethan Hamilton 44th (27:41.8). Tristan Lovett placed 46th (27:42.9).

Meanwhile, in the women's action, Ferris State was paced by Abigail Winkle on the 5K course as she came in 21st overall at 20:17.0. FSU's Amelia Topolinski took 45th place (21:24.1) with Lauren Sinnaeve 48th (21:30.8), Kaylee Huey 49th (21:36.0) and Claudio Baryo 56th (21:45.3).
