Ferris State Cross Country Steps Up Against Strong Competition At Lewis Crossover

Big Rapids, Mich. - Both the Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads returned to action on Saturday (Oct. 8) as they took part in the Lewis Crossover event held in Romeoville, Ill.

The Bulldog women's squad placed ninth overall in a competitive field with 236 points while the men's squad claimed 11th place with 321 points.

The annual event included teams from across the country such as Colorado Christian, Illinois-Springfield, Western Washington, Sioux Falls, Minnesota Duluth, Edinboro, Alabama-Huntsville, Saginaw Valley State, Michigan Tech, San Marcos and host Lewis University among others.

The Bulldog women were led by freshman Whitney Farrell, who placed 35th overall in a time of 22:43.90. Sophomore Hanna Brock placed 38th (22:50.30) with junior Sydney Kubiak 48th (23:02.50) and sophomore Danae Feldpausch 53rd (23:09.90). FSU's Melanea Strauss also placed in the top 70 overall as she claimed 64th place (23:22.30).

Senior Donis Harris paced the men's squad, coming in 49th overall at 24:59.80 in the men's competition. Sophomore Noah Griffith was 51st (25:04.00), sophomore Nathan Alford claimed 78th place (25:26.50) and junior Brandon Wirth was 88th (25:38.60). Fellow junior Dan Hardesty took 99th place (25:48.20) and sophomore Brendan Cairney narrowly missed finishing in the top 100 overall as he came in 101st at 25:49.90.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Muskegon Jayhawk Invitational set for Oct. 15 in Muskegon.
