Ferris State Posts Key GLIAC Road Win In Sweep Over Findlay

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad pulled out a 3-0 sweep over the Findlay Oilers in a pivotal Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road encounter on Friday (Oct. 21) night at Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio.

The nationally 21st-ranked Bulldogs swept the Oilers 25-23, 25-15 and 25-20 for their 13th consecutive victory this season. The matchup pitted the leaders of both the GLIAC North and South Divisions in FSU and UF, respectively.

Ferris State hit only .132 for the evening with 37 kills and 23 errors on 106 total attacks, but FSU came up with 58 digs, seven service aces, six block assists and two solo swats at the net in topping the Oilers.

Freshman Allyson Cappel had another big night for the Bulldogs with a team-high 12 kills in the contest. Both Ayanna Buckley and Maria Kronner added eight kills apiece for FSU.

Junior libero Lauren Reminga tallied 20 digs for FSU defensively with Cappel adding 10 more in the win. Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski posted 32 assists and also came up with six digs.

Findlay standout Hannah Tong paced the Oilers with 12 kills while Kara Scherger totaled 11 digs and Hailee Olson posted 22 assists.

Ferris State limited UF to a .055 hitting figure with Findlay netting 27 kills and 21 mistakes on 110 attempts. The Oilers had 14 block assists and four solo blocks, but also had nine service errors to go with five aces. They finished with 41 digs.

With the victory, Ferris State improved to 17-5 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC this season. Findlay feel to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in league action.

Ferris State will play another key league road contest on Saturday (Oct. 22) as the Bulldogs visit Wayne State for a 4 p.m. (ET) GLIAC encounter in Detroit. WSU is tied with Findlay atop the league's South Division as both teams hold identical 8-2 GLIAC marks following Friday's play.

The Bulldogs are the only remaining team in the league with a single loss in GLIAC action this season.
